Did you know that it's National Sewing Month? We thought it would be fun at this meeting for everyone to bring their favorite sewing tool. We meet this Thursday at 6:30pm. And The Quilt Basket is still our generous host! I also want to mention that you may want to think about your Christmas projects. You can shop before or after the meeting and receive 10% off. We really do love the Quilt Basket!
Hi everyone! Hope you're staying cool so far this summer! Well, cool enough! It's impossible to stay cool in Tucson in the summer. 😉 Our meeting is this Thursday, as usual. (6:30pm at the Quilt Basket! Come early to shop and save!)
We had a great time last Saturday testing out Bernina machines and making a fun zippered clutch! I will share more about it as well as the wonderful sponsors we have for our Project Linus challenge just as soon as this semester wraps up! In the meantime, don't forget that our meeting is this Thursday at 6:30pm. We love our home, The Quilt Basket, and hope that you'll come visit us!
Just a quick reminder that we have the April meeting this Thursday at 6:30. Always the second Thursday! Hope to see you at the Quilt Basket! And don't forget that a calendar has been added to the site, so if you know of anything quilt or sewing related, please let me know so I can add it!
February of this year brought the very first convention of The Modern Quilt Guild. Autsin, Texas was the host city for QuiltCon. This convention and juried show will happen every other year (on odd years) and in between there will be events called SewDowns in various towns across the United States. (You can read more about it on The Modern Quilt Guild website.) Some of the lectures were video taped and are available for FREE on the Craftsy Website! So for those that were not able to attend, we can still watch and learn, plus get excited about up coming events! (One SewDown is in Scottsdale in Sept. of 2014. Right in our backyard!)
We are really excited that there is a store in Tucson that is renting time on long arm machines! Just imagine the possibilities! 🙂 A field trip has been scheduled so that we can learn more about the class you'll need to take, what to expect, etc. Come join us!
Where: AZ Vac & Sew 3949 E. 29th Suite 701 (Their website is here)
When: Saturday, March 30th at 10am Meet about 9:45 out frontThere is no need to RSVP, but if you can, plan on grabbing lunch afterwards! PS. Please also note that I've added a calendar to the meeting page. The monthly meeting has been added for the rest of the year. If there are other quilt related events (local or not), please let me know so I can add them!
Okay! So one change for 2013 is to have an additional meeting once a quarter to make sure that the guild is heading in the right direction. (Yes, the blog title is a Glee reference, which admittedly has nothing to do with the Tucson Modern Quilt Guild, but seams a better title than Vocal Adrenaline.) This will be the perfect time to weigh in on changes that have been made or should be made, brainstorm and share ideas, make suggestions, etc. Think it'd be awesome to bring in a guest speaker about paper piecing? Come tell us! You're not committing to anything crazy, I promise! We need your input to do our best to help you learn and connect with other quilters. 🙂 We'll also use this time to address any more technical business aspects. Everyone is welcomed - this is not a closed meeting. Come this Thursday, February 7th to Paradise Bakery at Oracle and Wetmore at 6:30. And bring your ideas with you!
The members of our guild are so generous! I love that! In January we learned about Project Linus and are excited to support that fantastic organization this coming year! Last year we decided to make quilts for the UMC Cancer Center. The quilts are kept at the facility and used by patients coming in for chemotherapy treatments. I wanted to show off a bit and share the pictures of the fabulous quilts! (Please note that the quilts we donated are shown lined up on the table. Pictures courteous of Jennifer - one of our original members!) It was a great way to learn and practice the blocks Kristi presented each month. And of course it was for a worthy cause. We hope that they'll bring a small amount of comfort to the patients while they receive treatment. I'm excited to see everything that is donated in 2013 to Project Linus. It's going to be another great year! Come find out more at our meeting in February. 🙂
WHAT? It's already the second Thursday of the month! How is 2013 already flying by? YES! we are having a meeting. And a very exciting one at that. We have a fabulous plan for the new year and we are kicking it off with a guest from Project Linus. Come hear about this amazing organization and how they help the Tucson communities (and communities all over.) They are going to be our charity this year. And to encourage members to make and donate quilts (and blankets too), for each item donated at a meeting your name will be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate....for FABRIC! 🙂 Bring 10 items, your name is in 10 times! And the person who donates the most throughout the year will get a fabulous grand prize! We also have sewing days planned and guest speakers plus a really fun field trip in the works. So you won't want to miss out! See you the 10th at the Quilt Basket. Come at 6:00 to shop (and use your 10% discount) and the meeting starts at 6:30. See you there!
